 european report

just got back from italy on friday after 3 weeks. awesome experience. the wagon is terrific. i love it. very happy with all aspects of the car. i cant help but wonder what i am missing without active steering and anti-roll stabilization, but i wanted the wagon more than the sedan, so those are the breaks. it handles like a dream though with the normal steering. i hated the autostrades. the road from milan to bolongna sucks. lots of trucks in the right hand lane and crazy italian drivers in the left. narrow too. i loved the windy roads in chianti and in southern tuscany. italy dropoff was a little wierd as the driver did not show up! i left the keys with the hotel and began prayer. just kidding. i knew they would show up which they did and i just got a not from gerd behrends saying my car was headed for port today. any thoughts on when it will arrive, west coast? my bet is mid-august. all in all a very fun trip. when i figure out how to add photos i will. the biggest surprise of the trip was how much my opinion chaged about the 5 series sedan. seeing it over there made me appreciate its very european styling. very sharp. lots of wagons over there. i loved them all. saw a few audi a6 avants-the new ones. they are very sharp. the nav is a must and many thanks to beewang for his disk. i would do this again in a heartbeat. i cannot see doing just for the sake of it, but next time i have a trip planned over there will most defintely be thinking ed.

Glad you made it Wagon......

I just dropped off in Stuttgart (Sindelfingen) an hour ago and Lisa at Harms told me I should be (99% done deal) on a truck today and at the port in 1-2 days. The ship she basically was sure I'd be on was the Trianon which departs Bremerhaven July 5th and arrives CA. on July 29th. She told me the car needs to be at the port for 4 days before loading to a ship for "customs" requirements. She was reading the Wallenius Will. schedule and was sure that I'd be on the Trianon.

Anyway, if it happens I should be reunited by the 7/8th of August which would be great.

The only bad thing is my car is going on a truck filled with MBZ since I dropped off in Stuttgart.....one kilometer from the MBZ delivery center. I'll survive I suppose.

Wagonman,
congrats on the car and the trip.

Marcus,
are you sure you are getting on the Trianon? The Bremerhaven schedule shows the Trianon as a WW ship. Aren't West Coast cars going onto NYK ships? I dropped off in Munich on June 20th and I am hoping to make it on the Aquarius Leader or Phoenix leader, departing Bremerhaven 6/26 or 6/30 respectively.

NYK seems to on occassion use WW ships.......(Check the recent thread regarding the Pacific Breeze). The woman at Harms had a printout with the WW logo on it and told me about the Trianon being "my ship". Last year I had a car on the Jupiter Diamond for the NYK line but the WW website listed it on their schedule......it appears that NYK leases ships from WW.
