Dealer Processing Charge
Has anyone else been hit with: "DEALER PROCESSING CHARGE (NOT REQUIRED BY LAW)" $100.00 ?

Some actually give you something for the fee, although when my wife and I bought a Volvo, which included a $273 dealer prep. fee, they were surprised that I demanded the car actually be cleaned before delivery as part of the "prep services" they told me the fee covered.

In this case, they charge you $100 for a job that cost them far less than that. "Processing" probably means "doing the paperwork" and, if you're lucky, vacuming and cleaning the car, removing plastic covers and stickers, etc. Well, if you like the car, and this is the only extra "fee" you pay, take it. You can negotiate anything, but the dealer will hate your guts and you will have bad karma for who knows how long Also check the link below. http://www.carbuyingtips.com/scams.htm

MSRP supposingly includes all fees, but dealers make up new stuff...because they get away with it. Many buyers don't ask, they just sign the papers. If you decide to insist, go all the way, they will try every trick to make you pay the extra fee. Again, if your quote is MSRP + $100 "processing fee", it's not bad, it usually gets uglier in other dealerships, BMW or not.

That's the way of business these days. I asked what the "paperwork" fee was paying for and they told me "doing the paperwork we need to do to sell the car." I chided them for basically breaking out a cost of doing business as a separate fee. It's garbage, they know it and you know it, and you'll pay because everyone else charges something similar and it's just a way to get the price up a little higher.

I'm all for the dealer making a reasonable profit but when they start tacking on BS charges just to make more money over MSRP that's just wrong. According to my dealer these fees were "non-negotiable" so I made them reduce my selling price by an equivalent amount and I'd be happy to pay them or just not buy the car.
