I had a bad surprise today: I knew that the ED insurance had been reduced to 14 days. What I did not know is that if you add a month or two (as I am doing, paying a hefty $ 480) the 14 free days are taken away. Since I wanted to stay in Europe 64 days, I was supposed to pay for three months!!! This has come out after I already paid for the car. My CA is very embarassed by this and is trying to see if there is a way aroun it. Fat chance! This was not the case two years ago: two extra months brought the insurance to 90 days. I guess I'll have the car picked up ten days earlier. |

| That's annoying. Although I suspect that if you got the 14 days included, then the price would have been even heftier.
Either way, BMW or your CA should have been quite clear on this so as not to create problems.

If you difference what BMW NA charges for different months of insurance, I believe you will find they charge a modest base amount plus a larger fixed increment per month. You can also work out what you implicitly pay for the "free", first 14 days. From that you might strongly suspect that when you buy three months insurance, you are going to get three months insurance. It never hurts to play with the numbers a little to discover what the accountants are doing!

If your CA was really nice they'd think about picking up the additional cost of insurance for you. I think mine did that for me (I needed 20 days), but I don't believe it was his intention. When he gave me the form that said I got 30 days free insurance I told him it looked like he was using an old form but he said nope it's the one they've always used.
Oh well I tried.
