I'd love to know what's happened to others who dropped on in Italy. How'd you find the place? Did you get to meet the person driving the car back to Munich? Any problems?

Yobyot, what is your rough itinerary? Before you decide to drop off in Italy, you shuld know that Munich is only about 5 hours from Milan or Verona. Maybe 6 hours from Venice. I think you'd be better off winding up your Italian adventure in Northern Italy and then flying back out of Milan. Just a thought to save you agony of not knowing how your car is treated by someone else.

It's a pre-planned vacation. I booked the travel on FF miles last summer, since that's what you have to do to use miles for summer travel to Europe.
We arrive in Amsterdam on July 17. I'm planning to take a train to Munich to pick up the car on July 19. We depart from Rome on July 28. Other than that, there's no plan.
My initial thought was that I'd drive to Vienna (one of the places in Europe I've never seen), then wind my way to Rome via Venice and Florence (for my daughter who is coming on the trip).
Ideally, I wanted to drop off in Rome on July 26. That's why I was asking about Italy experiences: my company held an important conference in Rome in April, and logistics was a non-stop hassle. Things were late, incomplete and very badly organized.
I wanted to know the experiences of people who'd dropped off in Italy to get a sense of what they'd experienced.

is wacko to drive in...I don't mean to pry but I noticed that you're heading there. A couple of good suggestions I've heard here re: Florence is to 1)stay out at the Villa Fiesole, or 2)at the Villa Cora. You can learn about these places with a search here. You'll enjoy Florence without the driving nightmare....

My plan was to do just that. I appreciate the tips on where.

i will let you know when i get back june 24th. i plan to dropff outside florence. i got eh harms to agree to this. not far from florence only like 12 km but at least i dont have to deal with that nightmare. iw as in tuscany in 2000 and do not recall driving there to be any big deal at all. the big cities are another story (so i hear) i intend to avoid them if at all possible. circumstances are such that i cannot drive the car back to munich myself, otherwise i would. also, nice is pretty close by. i looked into dropping off there but travel contraints made it such that i have to do the italy dropoff. i am hopeful that it will be ok.
