To save a significant amount of money, I would would go to any dealer in the state and then drive the vehicle home when it was delivered. In fact, I would even go to Nevada or Oregon, but I don't know if that is feasible do to sales tax, registration and emissions controls issues for California cars. There are plenty of BMW dealerships in CA anyway.
What dealers in CA are easy to work with to get the famous "$1000-$1500 over ED wholesale" for the 2006 E90? Niello dealerships are closest to me, but previous experience dealing with them leads me to believe they would be a pain to purchase through. Would I be better off going down to the LA area or the Bay Area?

I had a fantastic experience with Concord BMW. I visited and talked to folks at almost a dozen Bay Area dealers. Concord easily won the "how much over invoice battle" and I couldn't be more pleased. PM me and I'll give you the details and contact info.

It's a brand new car and you'll be lucky to get few % off ED MSRP.
