I'm looking for the costs involved potentially of going with a non local dealer for my ED. I wanted to know if there are some costs that others have paid to have that non local dealer have me take my domestic delivery at a local dealership. Let me know thanks.)

Its called a "Courtesy Delivery", you can do a search on that, should be plenty of info.
Typically it's about $500.00, and some have reported its anything but courteous. The delivery dealer not having much to gain from their involvement.

With so many californians posting about the good availablity of ED dealers that will give you a reasonable deal, how far do you think you need to buy your car. It may not be worth it all if you after paying for courtesy redelivery. I bought from a dealer 2 hours away from Houston but I would have never thought of doing a courtesy redelivery. I drove up there to pick up my car after redelivery.

Good point. The guy who just bought my e36 flew down from Oakland to Burbank where I picked him up and he drove it home. I was thinking of doing a Performance Center delivery which is in SC. I would have driven home from there after, 2000 or so miles, just like I did on my ED.

Is there any incentive for dealerships to be courteous for a courtesy delivery if they are going to be the dealership that will care for the warranty and maintenance. I have heard that bmwna gives them some sort of incentive?

The only thing the delivering dealer gets is a check from the dealer that sold you the car to cover the costs of prepping, cleaning and gassing up the car, plus something to cover their time and effort. It's usually $500 or close to that.
This is not something that you can negociate after you've already paid for the car, because your selling dealer has to let BMWNA know where to ship the car, and they have to cover the cost of the courtesty delivery at the time they make the deal. If you hit them with that surprise after getting the car in Europe, don't be surprised if they make you pay more to cover the extra expense that wasn't originally part of the deal.
There is no incentive for the dealer to treat you any differently that their own clients, since it is true that you might use their dealership for service down the road. However, keep in mind that what ultimately drives many salespeople is the money in their pocket. For what most salespeople are paid to do a courtesy delivery, many of them won't be looking to go well above and beyond.
