I know the new 3 is being made in South Africa with output destined for the USA. With all due respect to the folks who read this board who are in .za, I would prefer that my ED 330i is made in Germany.
I've been assured by the salesman that ED cars are made in Germany ('cept for X3's which may be made by the subcontractor in Austria). But we all know how much BMW "client advisors" know about ED.
Has anyone ever gotten non-German production in an ED car? Does anyone know what BMW's production systems actually do with an ED order?

The only BMW cars available to US customers for European delivery are cars made in Germany. The VIN will confirm production is in Germany.

Z3's have a German VIN but are made in the US. The reason they have a German VIN is because a majority of the parts are made in Germany (then shipped to the US and assembled into a car).

The 11th digit represents the manufacturing facility, and it is "L" on all Z3s and X5s. The L represents the Spartanburg plant.
The same applies for South African cars-- they all have the letter "N" for the plant code. The only cars made in South Africa are 325i sedans, also.

I don't think they make Z3's at all any more.
