What are the rules for ED pickup?

What are the rules around who specifically can pick the vehicle up in Munich for ED? More specifically, if I ordered and financed the car could my Father pick it up? Thanks!

The only rule is whoever's name is on the order form is the only one who can pick up the car. Copies of passports are required when placing an order and during pick up.

Answer: NO!!

Otherwise we'd all buy the car thru ED and send someone else to pick up. Which defeats the purpose from BMW's POV

You might be able to if you are a "Jr." to your father...and the "Sr." or "Jr." doesn't show up on your passport.

I'd have guessed that BMW's point of view was to sell more cars. Is it not the case that ED exists as an option due to loopholes in the way tariffs are levied? I highly doubt that BMW makes less money off of ED delivered vehicles than ones sold domestically. I do appreciate the quick answers, BTW.

The purpose of the ED program ( as well as the Perfomance Center Delivery program aka PCD) is to serve as a PR and marketing tool for BMW.

There is NO tax duty saving (contrary from what you may have heard) by BMW. And they DO make less money (in forms of running the Delivery Center, logistic, registration and insurance, in short the have a higher cost). BMW is also well aware that the demand in the US for their vehicles are inelastic. BMW ED dept. has a very strict rule that they operate under.

hope this helps,
