 Drop-off time alotted?

Hi all:

Sorry if this has been discussed already, but how much time should I allot for drop-off.

I am thinking of using frequent flyer miles and the flight would be at 11:45 am from Zurich.

The Zuich drop-off location opens at 8:30 am according to the BMW site.

Thanks

Drop off shouldn't take more than 30 minutes...but my experience is from the Frankfurt and Munich drop offs. I don't know how Zurich is. Best bet is to email them and explain the situation. They will probably set you up an appt so that you can be in and out quickly. With all the changes because of 9/11, I'd rather drop the car off the day before if its a morning flight like yours.

Oh yeah, make sure you know exactly the drop off place is. You wouldn't want to get lost trying to find it and having less than 3 hours time before flight time.

OK thanks.

I just checked mapquest and apparently it's right near the airport, so it should be ok.

Thanks for the info.

I would prefer to do it the day before too, but it would be a Sunday.

I dropped off in Zurich. Do a search and there are a couple of threads on Zurich drop-off point (including pics). You should be alright, as the drop off is out near the airport. Have them call a taxi when you arrive, and you should be fine. It took me about 30 mins to do the paperwork. They actually seemed kind of slow. You might call the Friday before just to confirm everything, so you won't be delayed.

BTW, if the flight is not direct to teh US, don't worry about the security. It's not nearly as strict until you get to the point where the flight actually leaves for the US. (our 2 hour layover in Frankfurt was barely enough).

Thanks Tanning. It'll be non-stop to the US, so will have the security issue. I checked mapquest and you mentioned, it appears to be very close to the airport.

The second to last security check at Frankfurt the last time I flew through there to the U.S. was a half-block long zoo which I was able to largely walk around by having an "illegally" short connection, arriving a half hour late, from an interrupted flight. The final check went very quickly as I was the last on and the plane was supposed to have left 15 minutes before. The plane was still there because of missing baggage. It was another hour before that was on board and we could leave.

That was a year and half ago. I hope things have improved. I have never had such problems going through Amsterdam, although in this instance, this all started when I couldn't get to Schiphol.
