Big problem w/ED delivery - Poor (embarassed) Joern

Arrived in MD yesterday to pick up my long awaited 530i to be met by a very frustrated and embarassed Joern (he's great - not his fault!)

Apparently when they removed the rear Euro plate (they obviously do get delivered to the dealer on the car) at the last moment before my arrival to put on my plate they found that some numbskull (presumably back in Germany) had drilled two somewhat ragged holes throught the trunk lid, one each side of the license plate holder! It had nothing to do with how they ended up mounting the Euro plate bcause it was attached to the US license plate holder using the only two holes in the plate that are at a completely different pitch than the holes in the trunk.

Joern says that he does not know if I have the option to decide if this will be fixed by repairing the current lid or replacement and he is not hopeful that it will get resolved soon ('doesn't want to get my hopes up' because thay take time to decide where to place the blame). Meanwhile I have to drive round in my brand new car with ragged holes in the trunk lid! How ridiculous is that! I sure hope BMW customer relations decides to do the right thing and fix this by replacing the lid right away and giving me a good loaner in the interim.

Of much less significance my floor mats were all missing and poor Joern (he was having a bad day - said he didn't dare look behind the plates of the other ED cars from my shipment!) couldn't get te BMW Assist to register me either, so I had to leave without that addressed.

I just cannot understand or beleive that somebody could have done such a thing. It makes no sense.

Anyone ever hear of something like this before?

You got pictures?

So you're saying that somebody at the ED center in Germany drilled the holes wrong? I highly doubt that. I'm thinking it is somebody at the dealer.

I'll take pictures as soon as it stops raining.

I agree it seems far fetched but it makes no sense that it happened at the dealer because they had nothing to do there other than remove the old plate and install the new one on the bracket. However it also makes no sense for them to have drilled them at th ED center also - so I am at a loss!

Will the new plates cover the holes?

No that's the probem. They are about an inch or so either side of the US plate - they will also rust before too long.

WOW! Perhaps they are getting us back for asking en-masse to not drill the bumpers!

Its probably a 5 series thing... (just kidding guys!)
