 Security vest required in Austria

"New requirement starting May 2005
Drivers in Austria are required to carry a security vest in their car at all times. This new regulation is required by law and is subject to heavy fines."

I just read this. Do you think BMW will provide one. I hope so becuase I am not sure what is required...

Where did you learn about it? And what is a security vest?

Is seems quite strange. If that's the only European country that has such requirement, I don't think BMW would address it. How would they even know where you are planning to drive...

I do not know what a security vest is either that is why I was hoping BMW would have it handled. I think that it is a pretty good bet that a lot of people drive to Austria. It is pretty close to Munich. I read about the vest at http://www.austria.info/

I think a security vest is one of those brightly colored (orange ? yellow ?) safety vests that you're supposed to wear if you have car trouble and have to get out of the car to fix it. In the US you see road maintaince guys wear them.

I am confident, but not certain that BMW will provide the vest. I suspect that it will be made of paper or Tyvek and cost BMW about a dollar apiece.

Yes I'm sure the security vests are simialr to what you see construction workers wearing on the highway etc. here. We saw many people stopped at the side of the road wearing them when we were travelling there recently and thought they were such a smart idea I decided to get one for each car here when I returned. Makes people so much more visible and is therefore a great, and easy to implement safety measure.

Hopefully BMW might include them in the toolkit in the future if they become mandatory in more places.

However, I was told when I picked up my car that in Spain it is mandatory to have two warning triangles and, since BMW only provides one, if you go there you need to get a second.
