F.Y.I. To All Euro-Delivery Buyers Using Credit Cards

This is just a bit of info that I learned this past week, in case any of you use your credit card heavily while in Europe.

M.B.N.A. personnel got a memo a few days ago stating that effective on May 25th, they will begin charging currency conversion fees of 3 percent. The settlement fee of 1 percent that is charged by Mastercard & Visa to all banks will now be passed on to the respective bank, so M.B.N.A. is incorporating this into their fee.

According to Capital One, as of yesterday they have not yet changed their policy and do not charge this type of fee.

Okee-dokee...I wonder why they told me May 25th? Oh well, sorry for the dupe info.

Anyhow, they told me that since I applied on May 4th & was not given this information, they would waive all of these fees for me as a one-time courtesy when I go to Munich over Memorial Day weekend.

MBNA customers got a change of terms notice that mentioned that in the fine print as well....sucks.
My old REI Mastercard started making such change some years ago. The first time, I caught the change in the new terms agreement, rang them up and convinced them to keep the new fees off my account and in return I would pay a higher interest rate on outstanding balances. That was fine for me since I almost never carried any into the next month. The second time, after they had been bought out by another bank, I was not so lucky. I did, however, convince them to credit the foreign transaction fees for that month.

I have a credit card that for now gets me 5% back in rewards on all purchases, so if I lose 2 - 3%, I still come out ahead.
