 Price for additional ED insurance

I would be interested in buying a new E90 through the ED program and note that:
1. you can keep the car up to six months after delivery
2. you get only 14 days of insurance included in the price of the car

Does anyone know how much BMW charges for additional weeks/months of insurance on a 3-series? I assume they keep it simple and charge a flat rate rather than taking into account your driving record, age, etc? And do you have to buy insurance from them or can you somehow shop around?

Thanks.

To answer the original poster's last question: in theory, you could buy more insurance on your own after BMW's coverage ends, but you'll likely get a better rate if you instruct BMW NA to insure your car for your entire stay in advance. NA will probably also be much happier and helpful if you let them do everything.

It appears BMW NA is pooling their customers' risks for a more favorable rate. The insurance for customs/export plates completely ignores a driver's accident history. If you buy it on your own, that places you in the highest and most expensive risk category. To give you some idea of the cost, I would have to pay about four times as much to insure my car on export plates than I currently pay to insure the car as a resident.

I hope that answers the question.
