New to forums and interested in ED

Hi everybody. This is my first post here on these forums and I'm also considering getting my first bmw. I've been researching cars for the past 2-3 months and I've finally decided that I want a 2006 330i. I've read about people claiming to have negotiated prices of around 37,000$ for a well equipped 06' 330i through european delivery, compared to the 43,000$ msrp (after options/packages) on bmwusa. I also read in another thread here in the ED section that you can show up in Munich and pay to have them do the drop off for you and be in and out in the same day. This seems like a pretty simple way to save lots of money if you have the extra time to go through the ED process. Since this is going to be my first bmw... haha actually it's going to be the first car that I've bought myself, I have a few questions. I'm going from a 92' Mitsubishi Galant (don't laugh, the AC in this car is colder than my friend's AC in his 03' G35), to a new 330i. By the way, I'm 20 years old and not one single dollar of this money will come from my parents. This is all money that I've worked for and saved up (Just incase you guys think I'm some spoiled rich kid). I was wondering if you guys could help me out and give me a few pointers on how to go about buying my car. I know this is such a general and maybe stupid question but I'm a little bit overwhelmed by this whole process.

I really want SMG with my car but I know that it won't be available on the 330i until Fall, according to what I've read. So my question is, "Will I be able to order my car in the summer with SMG since it won't be until 3-4 months until I will be able to pick it up in Munich, and by then, SMG should be available." or will I have to wait until Fall to order it when SMG is actually available and then go pick it up sometime in early 06 and then wait 2 more months for it to arrive in california... omg that's such a long time

Also, if I do end up having to wait until Fall for the SMG, should I still consider doing ED since perhaps the U.S. price will stabilize by then.

And should I propose an offer to the dealerships or give the dealerships the car details and just compare the quotes they give me?

In either case, what's a ballpark figure I should expect or ask for? The MSRP of the 330i I configured is $42,545. That's with the premium and sport package and also the steptronic transmission (since there is no SMG available).

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

homer,

Search this forum. All your answers are here. ED is the only way to go.

First, find the ED Invoice Price and ED MSRP. Then check with several dealers. I think most will charge close to ED MSRP, though, because the new E90 is new.

Ask the dealer when they can order your SMG car and when you could pick one up.

It would be a shame to go to Munuch and not spend a little time looking around and driving your car. But yes, people have picked it up and delivered it straight to the drop off point, then flown out the next day.

Like sharmabmw said, browse through previous posts using the Search feature and you can find out what others have done.

I can understand why people go "overnight" to pick a new car and save some money, and if that is what you need to do and can't wait a year, go do it. I still think the best part of ED is not the car, but being able to explore Europe and everything is has to offer you. If you saved this much and want SMG, why not wait one year, save a little more, and make the trip more worthwhile by staying a little longer. You will get the SMG. You will also get so much more. I am 35 and married, but you, at 20...I wish I had the chance to go to Europe single and enjoy the culture and the WOMEN when I was 20. I never had that chance and later when I am 45, I will be spending a lot of money on a fancy car to get over my mid life crisis and get over the fact that I did not do what you have the chance to do yourself now. Anything you decide to do, there is plenty of info here. If you want my advise, do whatever you have to do to stay a little longer. The vehicle delivery is great, but the best part is the trip to Europe...don't forget that.
