First Oil change while on ED

Since I am going to be riding on my "Ultimate driving machine" in Europe for more than two weeks, I know that I am going to need the first oil change done! I won't hold back on the opportunity of driving my baby the way it was meant to be driven Thus, am I correct stating that I'll be needing the oil change? If so how soon is it recommended? I'll be getting a brand new E90 325i. I know that I could have read the manual, but since it is not out yet perhaps you could share some light on this. Also I assume that it is better to take the car to a Bimmer dealer while in Europe instead or a small garage...so how does it play with the warranty? Is this complicated or not? ...By the way thanks in advance

First recommended oil change in most bmw is one year/15000 miles. At least, that is what's covered in the Free Maintenance program. You can change your oil after break in for peace of mind. I'm sure you can just stop by any BMW dealership in Europe and get it done. I have no idea of the costs or if an appt. is necessary.

I don't really know anything about cars, but I was wondering haw bad for the car it would be for me to open it up on the Autobahn on the first day so I was reading older threads about engin break in just this morning and found a interesting link to this articlehere. who talks about break in and modern engines.

towards the end of the page there was this interesting bit:

Change Your Oil Right Away !!
The best thing you can do for your engine is to change your oil and filter after the first 20 miles. Most of the wearing in process happens immediately, creating a lot of metal in the oil. Plus, the amount of leftover machining chips and other crud left behind in the manufacturing process is simply amazing !! You want to flush that stuff out before it gets recycled and embedded in the transmission gears, and oil pump etc..

I can't really imagine spending time on my ED trip to get an oil change, and I am pretty sure that the BMW free maintence isn't going to spring for me to change my oil in Munich at 20 miles. But on the other hand I can't imagine it would hurt.

Has any one here every had an oil change during their ED trip?

As was mentioned before. The first oil change per manual is at 15K miles or 1 year whichever comes first (that is actually my case - I'm getting a free oil change in couple weeks because of 1 year anniversary of my ED and I have only 7K something miles.)

You can change it yourself in between the intervals as many times as you want both here or in Europe but it will be out of your pocket. Here it costs about $60 at the dealer. In Germany, I have no idea. Maybe Alex Bauman will know.

The break in period is not just because of the motor. Aside from the 4,500 RPM suggested limit there is also a 110 MPH limit. At 110 MPH your motor will be turning at much less that 4,000 RPM's. There are other mechanical components that need to be broken in.
