What does it cost to rent for three weeks and does it include "detailed" maps of every place you want to go?

I travel frequently and before I got the Garmin I rented cars with different nav systems and they are ok but Garmin out classed them all. The beauty of the Garmin is the touch screen. By far the hardest thing to do with any nav is enter stuff into the computer (I have a 745i and I NEVER use the nav, because it takes so long to enter anything into the system).
You will find that the Garmin is way more then just directions. It has several options that help travel in places you are not familiar with. You can search for attractions, food, gas ect. on the fly. The turn by turn directions are right on and with updated software you basically have a yellow pages and map quest with you.
I would say that it would be worth BUYING one and going on any trip, if you can rent one (2610 or later) is a no brainier. Go to there web site and try out the map demo or go to a local best buy and try it out in the store (my salesman went for a ride with me).
No I don’t work for Garmin, I just looked all over the net, found a product with good reviews and bought one. If discovered a piece of technology that was WAY better then anything I had ever used and that over delivered.

If you own a PocketPC pda, then you can order European maps from Mapopolis for $125 and a gps receiver for the PDA for under $100. You will also need a 1GB memory card to hold a reasonable amount of maps. Probably not worth the hassle and cost to only use for 3 weeks, but you could also buy US maps from Mapopolis or iNavCorp for around $100 and continue to use it when you get home. iNavCorp should also have European maps soon and it's a better interface than Mapopolis. I haven't seen any cheap GPS rentals in Europe.

I always told myself that for years I had driven with a Nav system so why should I need one now. Well I was looking for a new toy back in November when I saw that Amazon had the Garmin 2610 on sale for $735 plus a $100 rebate from Amazon AND a $100 rebate from Garmin for an efective purchase price of $535. It was such a deal I could not pass up. Now I wonder why I did not buy one before. What I am really trying to say is that $300 is really a lot money to throw away when you can buy an inexpensive Nav system for about $500 like the Magellan 300 . Though your unit will come with US maps, Magellan sells preloaded SD cards for the different countries in Europe you will travel. Later you can sell them here or EBay. I can assure you will put your Nav to good use back here in the States.
