Has anyone done this drive? What route? How far? How long does it take (at ? Km Per Hour)? How difficult is the road? (In May)

We went down to Stressa Italy on the west side of Lake Maggiore, then returned to Germany past Lake Como. On the return trip we took one day from Stressa, east towards Milan, north past Lucerne, to Bad Saeckingen, Germany.
I think it would be quite a long day to get all the way back to Munich in one day.
Take a look at the E39 CarDomain link below for more pictures and a summary of where we travelled. (We covered 1800 miles in two weeks.)

In Jume of 2003 I drove from Munich, the day I picked up a 325it, to Lake Como. We left Munich from the ED center around 9:30am. We arrived at Lake Como around 4:00pm or there abouts. Not any later.
BE SURE AND STOP AT THE AUSTRIAN BORDER AND BUY THE PASS NEEDED FOR THE AUTOBAN. I missed the place to buy it and it was expensive when I was stopped later that day. You need to buy one for the Swiss also.
The drive is an easy one in the summer not sure about the winter.

Of course the best route depends on your purpose. There are many pleasant drives from Munich to Como (trough Switzerland or the lake district in Italy). If you want a fast way to get there - or back - my guess would be: From Munich to Verona on the Brennero highway; then Verona to Milano via Brescia and Bergamo; before Milan, you switch to the Milan-Como highway. The other way around to return. All this is on autostrade and winter should not ( ) be a problem. Easily doable in one day.
