Advice for ED with pregnant wife
Allright moms and dads and more-importantly, soon-to-be- moms or dads,
I need advice on where to go and what to see on my short ED in May with my wife who will be 25 weeks pregnant. This baby is our first so I can't predict what she's going to be like.
The 8-10 hr flight from NYC -> Germany in cramped quarters is going to be tough for her. In Europe, we only have four days given our work schedules, so there's not too much time to relax. I'd like to pick a romantic place which we can have the maximum time to relax and that is not too far driving distance.
These are my ideas. Please comment.
1. Day 1 (sunday) munich, Day 2 + 3 Lake Como, Day 4 dropoff in Milan ----- Is Como too far of a drive? (6 hrs) ----- Is reliance upon E.H. Harms to truck the car back to Munich going to delay the U.S. delivery too much?
2. Day 1 (sun) munich, Day 2 - 4 Vienna with dropoff in Vienna ------ Is Vienna relaxing and romantic enough? I've heard it's a lot of walking and touring.
3. Stay in munich for Days 1-4.
What do you think? I know there's plenty of advice on bimmerfest, but I was hoping to hear from the dads and moms to be.

Munich to Lake Como to Vienna is a lot of driving. I traveled once to spain with my then pregnant wife, right around 25 weeks. The plane was not that big of a deal, but we drove much more than she was comfortable with. Also, smoking was an issue. We went in November and had to eat dinner in places where people would hold their fork in one hand and a cigarette with the other, which was very uncomfortable. I think you will have a problem finding an obstetrician advising you to do such a physically challenging trip for her, but if you decide to do it, I recommend that you stay in Germany and just do short drives. Even if you have been to Germany before, I am sure there is plenty to do there and I truly think you and your wife will enjoy your trip much more if you do not drive as much.

I would suggest that you tell whoever at both the ticket counter and the gate that you have a pregnant wife travelling with you. SAS at least, went out their way to get us good seats, let us board first and so on.
Airlines do have cut-off dates for letting pregnant women fly. I can't remember what SAS' was, but it is something like 30 weeks. I would check that out as well.
Otherwise, however you plan your ED, enjoy the trip! And best wishes to both of you on the new BMW and the new baby!

For example: The Alpine Road (do it slowly); Hohenschwanstein; Wieskirche; Berchtesgaden; Oberammergau; and in Munich, great art and technology museums.

Cramping, nausea, dizziness, and even the risk of an embolism. If you drive a lot and during your flight, she should stand up and move her legs often. I think in their excitement the biggest mistake people make, even without being pregnant, is to try to cover too much ground. In my opinion, is first about the trip and enjoying Europe. Having a new BMW just makes it better. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, sharma.

1) On flight, if she can walk around a bit, that's ideal. You don't want DVT, which is even more likely when pregnant. But the flight should be okay, just a little uncomfy.
2) Don't plan to drive great lengths at once. That said, my wife was happier driving than getting out to walk. I would have liked to have hiked a bit (at least short hikes up roadside trails); she was having none of that.
3) I would not try to make it to Como; instead, either go southeast or southwest (Austria). Keep it modest. Don't plan on long days. Probably also better to stay in the same hotel a couple of nights, rather than moving every night.
4) I would not worry too much about smoking in restaurants. First off, you can eat outside. Second, you can ask to be seated away from the bar. (As it turned out, in Zurich, they created a non-smoking section for my wife and me. We were seated next to a smoker, asked to be moved, which they did, and then they asked every patron before seating them if they wanted to smoke, and, unless they said no, they were seated in another part of the restaurant--they even asked someone to leave after they lit up, having said they wouldn't smoke).
5) Dropping off in Milan does not mean a truck-ride back to Munich, it means the car is driven there. It could add a bit to the delay, but probably not much (search for italy dro off). On balance, I would either do a loop back to Munich or drop off somewhere like Zurich.
