I'm picking up on Friday, dropping off Monday and staying with a friend for the w/e in Munich.
Anyone have any suggestions where to go with my new toy for a few drives? Scenery, turns, and of course, the obligatory autobahn thrash - with out putting on 1k miles?!

You could take the byways there, and then shoot back on the autobahn.
Here's a viamichelin map of the area--the autoban is in purple. I'd take some of the roads to teh south that are outlined in green for scenic.

Has anyone taken the BMW sponsored tours described on the BMWNA website? Thoughts / Comments? They seem kind of expensive to me.

Why not explore places on your own and spend the difference on some sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet helles  (is there one for helles, that's a dunkel!)

We picked up on Friday AM, drove to Garmisch and skied (good autobahn run) and stayed there. But you could also do day trips: Fussen, for King Ludwig's castle(s), various baroque churches. You could do Innsbruck and back in a day.
But why day trips from Munich? We went Garmisch-Fussen-Rotenburg-Colburg and dropped off in Frankfurt. Friday to Monday.
