i've applied to a couple bmw dealers and it seems i landed one. i'll know soon enough. now before i settled down on it, i decided to ease my choice by applying to a bmw dealer who is part of a chain of dealers owned by a fortune 500 company.
well this fortune 500 bmw dealer finally decides to call me for an interview and so i scheduled it and i go in. the minute i walked in i sensed a feeling of rushed/packed because the only person who even said anything to me for 90 minutes was the receptionist.
as i wait for the interview, i see that old tenured sales rep every dealer has. he's that guy who already judges you by either your age, clothes, etc, so i knew he wasn't going to say anything to me (which i didn't care). what got me though was a customer who came in and was looking around and was waiting for "an available sales rep"
i knew the old guy wasn't busy because he was pacing in circles in the showroom. Even then the customer was left hanging on with his kid. This customer was waiting in the showroom for a sales rep as long as i was waiting for the manager, yet he didn't leave (which shocked me personally).
at some point a sales rep makes his way to him and they begin talking about a 7 series bmw. I look over and see the old guy kind of drop a "wtf, he should've been my sale" look. He even stated out loud he was going to help the customer, etc. At that point i made my decision where i want to go, even if further away for a job, so i told the old guy "well bud, if you would stop prejudging someone for how they look and dress, perhaps you would stop looking pissed and make a bit more money wouldn't you?"
at that point i was going to get up and leave when the manager comes over and just gives me a 5 minute interview. i didn't care; i wasn't tryng to impress him anymore. I'm just shocked that this dealership is most likely going to get a sale out of nothing. I promised myself if i land this job to NEVER EVER be like that old tenured rep. Respect and courtesy goes a long way.
yeah i rambled, so... heh.

Or you could do what I did, take the job, and "their" sales. I have some of the "old school" guys here too. Through non-pressure, courtesy, respect & knowledge, I quickly matched, then exceeded their monthly sales.
