I recall a few posters mentioning nearby Munich BMW dealerships that added the Euro lower tail lights to replace the God-awful "punch out" panels on the 5er rears.
I've ordered an Olivin Green 545i so the panel color incongruity is negligible, but if it's something that could be done in a morning and wouldn't complicate clearing customs (and didn't cost and arm and a leg), I'm still interested.
Opinions, observations, experiences, and dealership locations would be appreciated.

You're better off buying them, stowing them in your luggage, and installing them when your car arrives in the states. Since they're not standard equipment, the guys at the VPC might remove them.
It takes about 5 minutes with a flathead screwdriver and a towel to pry the plugs out and put the reflectors in.

I had a similar question a couple of weeks ago. As mrbelk says, they are reflectors. From the responses I got, I was advised that it is better to buy them here. It is the same price and there are selective dealers that have it.
A search will help.

The reflectors are available here in the States. Because of the exchange rate it seems that you get a better deal getting the reflectors in the States. It seems that people have been paying over $30 in Germany. If you check this thread where people have been paying less than $20 from a BMW dealer. That makes me wonder then what is the real reason they are not factory installed. Originally many were thinking it was a DOT compliance issue.

Rumor also has it that it is better to hook a piece of fishing line under the outside corner of the "plug" and pull it out...... this way there is less chance of "maring" the bumper with the screw driver......

You would have to use some good gloves and something like deep-sea fishing line (like you would use for marlins or sharks).
Some stiff packing twine might do it, but I used a screwdriver and a kitchen towel and didn't even come close to marring the paintwork.
