Is it even safe to go to Prague? I've heard some funny stuff with regards to Russian mafia and such. Anyone know the real scoop...is it safe to take a brand new 545i? Thanks!

A few years ago we had an ED customer who wanted to do this. As I recall, the ED insurance wouldn't cover it at that time...

I believe ED insurance does now cover teh Czech Republic. The ED page on bmwusa.com even mentions:
Quote: European Countries Subject to Road Tolls Certain highways and expressways in Austria, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic are subject to a toll and require a toll sticker to be purchased and attached on the front windshield of your car. These toll stickers must be purchased prior to entry into any of these three countries and can be purchased at gas stations, post offices and border crossings. | That still doesn't say if it is safe to bring your car or not, but I've been to Prague a few times, and had not heard of widespread theft.

Yeah, you hear a lot about Czech Republic, but no major issues with me. It is a few (4) hours from Munich. There is much road construction in the former East Germany and lots in Czech Republic. There is no highway for the last 30 miles (slow). Several highway roads are not on the NAV disk (2004.1), but no problems. I had a little heart palpitation at the border crossing . Many cars are stolen in Germany and brought to the former east block. The guard at the gate told me that my registration was not the registration, WRONG, then pulled me over for 15 minutes and checked out my serial numbers under the hood and other places . Become familiar with were these numbers are on and under the car at delivery to avoid looking like a stooge in front of everyone while outside in the freezing cold. After going though the crossing pull right over to the right and buy a toll sticker for the windshield (see pic) for about $7.00
Prague is beautiful, don't miss it! The Metropolitan building is a masterpiece see a taste of Prague below. I stayed at the Sheraton $135.00/night and used their garage (covered pkg is a must) for the 5er until we left. There is lots of rush hour traffic during the week, lost and hour going 2 miles leaving town Monday morning. All is covered for travel there by BMW.
