 ED Car Rental?

Does anyone have any tips on renting a car in Europe? Any sites outside the normal online places (travelocity, orbitz, expedia) to book a cheap rental? I plan to pickup the rental in Munich possibly at the airport or near E.H. Harms when I dropoff my new BMW. Any problems with driving a rental between countries? I plan to drive it into Austria and possibly Italy. Thanks for the help!

You can go straight to the rental car company websites to look at prices too. Hertz, Avis, Budget, National/Alamo, Europecar, and SixT are all companies that come to mind. I don't think any of them will be very cheap. While living there I was amazed by how expensive rental cars were.

There is no problem driving them between countries as long as you don't head into Eastern Europe. While I lived there (been gone a little over a year now...) the rental agreement specified you could not take the car into countries like Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukrain, ect. Austria and Italy should be no problem.

I usually get quotes between these three: europebycar.com or autoeurope.com and rentacar-worldwide.com
The last one(rentacar-worldwide.com) always turns out to be the cheapest. I also book a compact or whatever the second cheapest is and usually when I get to the pick up location they upgrade me for free. They are based out of Ireland and I have used them in Spain over 8 times and they never fail me. They use rental companies such as hertz, avis or europcar which are brand names. Also if you have certain credit cards you don't need to purchase the insurance b/c the cc covers it, just watch out for lost of use charges if you crash the car. I usually pay between $140-170/week for a 1 week car rental w/out insurance. Last time I used them was in March 04. I use my cc for additional coverage. There is no problems driving between countries as long as you stay away from Eastern Europe. Good luck

I think he meant Eastern Europe. However, on one trip over Hertz would not allow us to travel in Italy.

A few weeks ago I rented a car for Italy from this site:
http://www.rentacar-worldwide.com/
It worked out without a glitch and was cheeper than Avis etc.
I just found it with google. There were several others that I didn't try, but may worth a try. If you are staying over three weeks, Renault USA has the best prices.
