Madrid dropoff experience
I've read several posts that mention a Madrid dropoff, but they are somewhat old and have little detail. Can anyone elaborate on a Madrid dropoff experience, and in particular whether they feel that dropping there added significantly to the time it took to take delivery in the US?
| | Reply » Madrid dropoff experience | My Madrid dropoff experience goes back to July 2002... The current dropoff location is not the same I used in 2002, which was a motel (Motel Avion) near the airport. My experience was good and the location convenient. The people were friendly and efficient. I requested a taxi when I got there and was done with all the formalities before the taxi's arrival. From what I recall, the whole process took about 45 minutes (the taxi took a while to get there) and the ride to the airport was about 10 minutes. Regarding transit times, I would estimate between 3-6 days were added to average transit times due to the distance between Madrid and the ports of embarkation (Antwerp or Bremerhaven). Dropoff was on 7/9/02 and pickup at dealer in Boston MA was on 8/29/02 (7 weeks of "pain & suffering" ). As a last note, the company handling the Madrid dropoff location is still the same - Auto Turistica Iberica - so the service levels you'll experience should hopefully be similar to my experience. I would recommend you find out the distance between the new location and the airport (assuming you'll be flying immediately after dropoff) so you can plan accordingly. Good luck and have fun, Spain is great!

I have communicated with the people there by email and they have been very helpful and accommodating so far - but it is good to get your reassurance based upon actual exprience. 7 weeks is going to seem like an age I'm sure, but 7 vs 6 is really not so bad, particularly since the alternative ewould be to drive north and probably take at least 2 days doing that.
By the way, how long did you take driving from Munich and what was your route? We're planning about eight days via Florence adn Barcelona.

Drove from Munich to Venice and then on to Florence. Day 2. Drove through southern France, spent the night in Montpellier. Day 3. Drove to Barcelona, spent a few hours there, ended in Zaragoza (surprisingly nice) Day 4. Drove to Lisbon, Portugal (my hometown) ... Day 16. Drove from Lisbon to Madrid Day 17. Dropped off car (530i) and flew back to Boston.

Their directions are not often accurate or reliable in my experience.
