I've contacted the Regensburg factory (home of M3's) and they will let me go on a factory tour in German if I want on Friday afternoon, after I pick up my car Friday morning. I don't speak German. I think it would be worth it, despite the tour being in German. It's mostly the visuals which would seem most impressive, and I'm a car guy, so I should be able to figure out what's happening. Any comments from you who have been on a factory tour, would be appreciated.

If all you can get is German, then I would go on it anyway. As you said, you'll be able to see things. Your biggest confusion will be understanding the instructions on stowing your clothes, putting on the headset, and the smocks and other safety gear they hand out.

Also, you might get lucky and have a tourguide who can at least give some of the highlights to you in English when walking between displays.

We did the Munich tour with a German group and the guide repeated everything in English for us, not a problem (I'd worked in a Chevy plant during college and he was quite interested in the differences..."well, the Americans drank all their beer before going to work for one thing")
