South France to Paris, best way to drive?

There seem to be two ways to get from around Montpellier to Paris. One is through Lyon what looks to be A7 and the other A75 would be closer to where I'll be staying.

I think the A7 is a toll road, but would one be faster than the other, has anyone driven both?

Need to make the trip in one day it looks like about an 8 hour drive.

Just logged on to the forum for the first time in ages. Can't compare the two routes, but can say that last summer we drove from Arles to Tours easily in a day up the A75, etc. That included meandering through side roads and the spectacular Gorge du Tarn to get to the A75 near Millau. Which just happens to be the site of the totally mind-blowing new bridge that takes the A75 over the Gorge. The world's tallest bridge. Just opened a few weeks ago. I'd go that way for no other reason than to drive over that bridge (and stop and look at it from the side, if you can).
Hope that helps!

Interesting. I just mapped out your route, sounds like fun! I'm debating whether to go to France just to see that bridge, and of couse the other scenery and the south of France and...

Thanks! Was planning to go through Millau and see/drive the bridge, just was not sure how much better or faster the toll road would be.

Here's a link to the bridge web site!

We got stuck in a huge traffic jam in Lyon enroute from Avignon to Paris. There were no apparent accidents, it was just a Saturday in the summer.

The A75 is a toll road too because of the bridge, but I'm sure it would be worth it. It's an engineering marvel that cuts through great countryside and friendly towns. Enjoy the trip!
