 Reflective safety vest for A E I P

I was just curious if BMW has been throwing in an EN 471 compliant safety vest when they do a European Delivery. According to the ADAC, Spain, Italy and Austria now or soon will require that you wear one when you get out of the car after an accident or breakdown on a highway. In Portugal, you can be fined 60–300 euros if you don't have one in the car.

I had never heard of this safety vest, I would think only at night though. I know in Spain as of now it is not required. I drove there(Spain) past March and my rental car did not include one. The only thing they will nail you hard for is talking on a cell phone while driving, they have no mercy if they catch you.

It is a fairly new requirement from within the last year. Apparently, it also applies during the day. If you step onto the roadway without one you can be fined. At the moment, only Portugal requires you to have a vest in the car; elsewhere, you don't need one if you don't get out.

My guess is that safety vests won't be issued during an ED unless is becomes required equipment everywhere like the emergency triangle and first aid kit.

It will be interesting to see what BMW NA does about winter EDs should proposals to require snow tires when there is ice and snow become law.

Interesting; for some odd reason, I like this kind of thing. May have to get one -- currently I have a version of this that is a lightweight jacket, with flourescent stripes I keep in the boot for in case of emergency/tire change at night in which I need some protection and visibility -- beleive me these things make you stand out like a lighthouse.

I like the idea of not getting flattened.

Attached is the KFZ Pannen-Warnweste I recently mail ordered for 3.95 euros from http://www.reichelt.de. (Fluorescent green was out of stock.) It is a woven synthetic, came with a velcro-closed, bright orange slip bag, and has the magic letters "EN 471" stamped on it to satisfy the ticket writers.
