 renting snow tires or chains

Is there anyway to rent snow tires or snow chains while visiting Germany on a ED trip? I'd like a little extra security while driving through the Alps into Italy. I've gotten mixed reactions from this board as to how safe it is driving in Feb through the mountains of Austria, so I'm looking for a safer way hehehe.

Thanks guys as always -

That's enough man. I've never seen such over concern and paranoia is there any chance you can get the car delivered stateside, or send someone with more balls, like your wife or GF. Sheesh.

Why not buy chains here and bring with? If you get tires, what will you do with the tires on the car? put them in the trunk for your entire trip?

But, seriously, if you're worried about snow, change your itinerary so it's not an issue. Soemtimes you have to compromise on these things--if you ahve to go in Feb., maybe you can't go through the alps.

I agree with Tanning Machine, that you might want to reconsider your itinerary. You might be fine, but there's already so much to see and do outside of the higher elevations that you might as well stay safer...

Was that particularly necessary? I don't think so.

I'm doing the same trip in three weeks - skiing in the Dolmites below the Brenner pass - though with an X3. But, I have done the same trip every year and in a cheapy rental car from Munich and have never had any problem - they clear the roads thoroughly since it's a major route. That being said, since you are an Austinite - like my wimpy brother - you may want to change intinerary......actually, you would need to change delivery time since the weather throughout that area has the risks of snow...........good luck!!

e36m3r is one of the most insecure individuals I have ever encountered on a bulletin board. that in and of itself is a truly impressive achievement.
