 How romantic is the road?

The trip between Munich & Innsbruck is quicker if you don't take the Romantic Road, but I've heard that this is a great drive. What has your experience been?

It's beautiful and if you're going to Neuschwanstein or some of the other castles, it's a great way to go.

But if you're in a hurry, it's not a fast route. It's a great drive because it's senic. The direct route (A95 I think) is a great drive for other reasons...

(Headed north back towards Munich)

Thanks. Nice pics. Is that THE road, in the first pic. It looks so narrow, like a driveway.

Oh, yes, that is a driveway right off the road. I didn't actually take pictures of the road itself.

I drove almost all of the Romantische Strasse. I liked the part south of MUnich the best. REALLY fun driving!

I drove a good portion of it - it seemed to be various road sections, not a single road - kind of like Route 1 on the East Coast.

It's pretty nice, but I've driven better in south France (north of Nice), and in Italy. I didn't find it that much more scenic or fun than typical German roads.

It's not a 'must drive' like the roads around Nice, France.
