 BMW FActory tour

I am planning a trip to take delivery of our 4th BMW next year. And I would like to take a tour of the factory. Any recommendations? How far is it from the delivery dealer, how long it takes, when to make our reservations, etc.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ray

try a search for additional information. But it's a 10 min drive to the Munich factory from the pickup point. Your salesman should be able to make a reservation, and you should do so once you've settled on a pick up date, as the english-spoken tours are limited.

Depending on what model you're getting and what your schedule will allow for, it might be even more interesting to take a tour of the actual plant where your car was built, like Dingolfing for the 5er, 6er, and 7er, or Regensburg for the 3er. I wish that I had had more time over there to shoot up to Dingolfing to watch them build 5ers, but by the time we left Munich, my wife had had enough "car" stuff.

I agree. I did Regensburg because Munich was undergoing renovations while I was there. So I hunted around the web and found information for both Dingolfing and Regensburg. Regensburg offers Wednesday tours (perhaps others but I didn't check). If you call Dingolfing, they'll offer tours on Fridays and if you e-mail them they'll offer tours on Tuesdays.

IMHO, I'm glad I didn't do Munich. From what I heard, they killed most of the plant tour showing you a video instead. Besides, I wanted to see where my car was born. It was worth the 1 hour drive out-of-town.

Munich is still doing renovations. You can only see part of the plant. When we were there the engine department was closed off and they showed a video of it.
Still interesting to see. There'a number youc an call in the US to make reservations ahead of time. Our english tour was on a Tuesday at 6pm.
Took about 2 hours.

I did the factory tour in Dingolfing and thought it was great. If you go they will take you through most of the plant. The sheet metal presses are enormous; the robotic welders are a trip; and the assembly of different types of cars on a single line one right after the other is amazing. Enough encouragement for you? The tourguide I had was totally open to questions, BTW. There is a plant web site at http://www.bmw-plant-dingolfing.com/ check it out.

Cheers,
