 18 year old taking ED?

I tried to make the title as clear as I could. I am planning a trip to Germany with my friends this summer and am also going to try to convince my parents to get me a new car this summer. Would it be possible for my parents to buy a car and me pick it up? If so, would it be a bad idea for an 18 year old to go pick up a car with his friends and drive it around Europe for 1 or 2 weeks? The thing I'm concerned about is whether or not I'd be able to drive safely over there.

Also, how do you people that do European Delivery deal with not having a car for ~1.5 months? Would it be a bad idea for me to do this knowing I have to go to college within a week of coming back from Europe and having no transportation while I'm there?

Sorry for all the questions, just wondering if it would even be possible or a good idea for me to do it before I go trying to convince my parents to do it, which is pretty much a lost cause in itself.

If you can pull this off, more power to you.

I can't imagine how awesome it would have been to pull up to clubs in Munchen in a new Bay Em Vay when I was 18.

Your problem is going to be whether or not the ED program will want to cover you with the one month free insurance and registration.

I am pretty sure the car must be picked up by the Purchaser. So the purchase would have to include you name.

As for not having transportion while the car is re-delivered, well that is part of the deal I guess. I had to keep my existing car till my 5er showed up. Then I sold it on my own.

The only real requirements for the program are that you are 18 and have a driver's license....so I should be covered. My main concerns are whether or not I could handle the driving style and whether they'll let me pick it up if it's in my parents' name.

I'm pretty sure that the purchaser of the car is the only one that can pick it up so as long as your folks put the title in your name then you can pick it up. Driving over there is another story. You might be legal to do so, but Euro driving can be tricky IMO.

I would highly encourage you to do this. You're 18 only once(or 365 times). It is a rite of passage to go backpacking before going to college, in Europe. It is a very enriching experience. You might consider backpacking a few weeks, in one area; then picking your new BMW up for the remaining two weeks. Spend as much time as your budget allows. Best of luck to you.
