No 5 series ED after Feb? BMWNA "allotment"??? PLEASE HELP...
Please read the following quote from a very recent previous post....
"FYI, I understand from my dealership that as of yesterday BMW NA had an allottment (not the dealer) of accepting up to 2 ED orders for the 5 series. BMWNA did not confirm this number today but did say that there will be no production of the 5 series in March since the MY production ends in Feb. ED for the 5 series in March and April will only be possible from leftovers of the Feb production."
IF TRUE, THIS IS VERY TROUBLING FOR ME. I am about to order a 545 ED for late April pickup. My dealer told me it will be a March or April production car. According to the above, there will be no such thing. Additionally, I have never heard of any limitation or "allotment" of ED cars for BMWNA, let alone 2 orders (per month, per year?).
I have booked my air and hotel for a two week trip, and I am about to put my current car ('02 M3 conv.) up for sale, so I would appreciate any informed insight into this.

Additionally, if this is accurate (or even if it isn't), am I better off waiting for an early '06? Could I pick one up in September or October? Does anyone know of any changes or improvements for '06 that would be worth waiting for?

If they're stopping production for THOSE months, then it most likely means they're putting the valvetronic six in coincident with the E90 launch.

It was me who spoke to BMWNA who confirmed that there will be no March or April production of the 5er. The number 2 was given by my dealership. I would recommend speaking to BMWNA directly at XXXXXXXXX. A second confirmation can only help.
I can understand how nailbiting this can be.

Pitt, I just spoke with BMWNA, and they did confirm what you said, but told me that it only applies to the the 525 and 530, NOT the 545. According to them, the 545 will continue its MY run per the normal schedule, with '06 starting production in around September. Good news for me; hopefully by the end of April, I'll be driving my new 545 around Europe.

How can they stop production for 2005's in Feb. Very weird.

And even the smallest engine would offer more hp than the current 525i with 184 or so.I read this somewhere here in the forum, but not sure if this is for 06 or 07. Do a search here and you'll see.
