Is it really worth it to go ED on a well priced 545 or 6 series?
What are the drawbacks

I did ED for my 545 and I'm doing it again in 2 weeks for my 645Cic. Its definately worth it! Right out of the gate you're saving 7%, plus whatever you can negotiate with the dealer. The trip to Europe is freat fun! You can make it quick or take a long vacation. Just being able to drive on the roads these cars were designed for is worth the trip. I would say the main drawback is that you will not have the use of your new car for 4 to 8 weeks depending on where in the US you are.

"Worth it" depends on your point of view. It can definately save you some money, but you'll have to pay for your car upfront and not have the use of it (save for in Europe) for 6-8 weeks. Trade ins (if you have one) are another issue you have to work around.

So, do you want the car now ? If so, it's not worth it. Do you want to save some money on the purchase , and are willing to go through some "hassle" (travel, trade in, etc), then yes, it's worth it.

The questions to ask yourself:
Are you patient? From ordering the car to final delivery in the U.S. was five months for me. I'm a very patient person, and it was hard near the end because I had driven the car for two weeks in Europe. Still, I'd do it again in a heart beat.

Do you want to go to Europe anyways? If not, the cost of the trip negates some of the benefit. On the other hand, if you want to go anyways, think of it as a free rental car.
