ED in February..bad weather?? help please....

I was planning on doing an ED 545 in May, but I am a little upside down in my current lease, so I may just postpone until my lease is up at the end of April '06. The best pickup date for me is about February 1st '06.This way I will turn in my existing car (M3 convertible) at about the same time as my new one comes into port.

I am planning on about 12-14 days in Europe. I am not interested in the alps. I am interested in Munich, Bavaria,Salzburg, Northern Italy (Como, maybe Venice), and possibly eastern France, depending upon schedule.

Would it be stupid to pickup at this time? I have no problem with the cold, in fact, I like it, but I do not want to be driving in a lot of snow and rain, and have non-stop days of overcast gray skies.

Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't want to do that long of a trip in the middle of winter...
you should probably decide which is more important to you - saving money and having the car arrive at the right time OR having a nice European vacation... IMHO the 2 are not compatible in your situation.

Fishskis,

I'm currently planning a Feb 2005 ED. I'm still doing quite a bit of research on it.. and have the same concerns as you. I really don't want to drive my new 545 with summer tires in the snow. I've found that you can still avoid the Alps via the Gotthard tunnel (goes under the Alps) and Brenner Pass (max elevation is 4500 feet).

If the roads are too bad while I'm there........ I'll just take the car back to Harms and jump the train.

Good luck........

Thanks Bill. You're probably right. It really isn't about saving money (actually, there is no savings in doing Feb pickup, it is just more seemless timing so I don't have to rent a car for a month or two). I was all ready to do it this spring, and putting it off a year is just a bit of a bummer. But it would really be shortsighted to go in Feb instead of April just to get it a month or two earlier if I am not going to be able to enjoy the trip.

Thanks for the advice.

I wouldn't do it in Jan. or Feb., probably the worst months of winter in Germany and it can get brutal. Not that the weather is any worse than in the US, but it can turn really, really bad very fast...like in a couple of hours.
