About to order..a few questions????

I am about to order a 545 for ED. ED is new to me, and I have spent much of the past 48 hours scouring this board, which has been incredibly helpful (thank you to beewang(?) and whoever else is responsible for this great site); but I still have some questions.

- I was planning on picking up my car about May 1st, but with the Lufthansa offer, I am considering trying to get a reservation to go at the end of March. Is the weather in Bavaria/Salzburg/Northern Italy/Central and Southern France/Czeck Republic markedly different during early April vs. early May. I have no problem with cold weather, but I do not want to be driving in the snow.

- Is the car safe in Czeckoslovakia (particularly Karlovy Vary and Prague)?

- Does anybody know of any reasonably priced nice accomodations in Como, Belaggio, or Venice; the grand hotels there start at $600 or $700 a night. Unfortunately, I have been spoiled in the past, but I really would like to find something nice for $200-$300; is this unrealistic?

As for timing, I think most people would suggest that you stay out of upper elevations during late March / early April, but otherwise you'd probably be OK. As for Prague etc, I speak only from my own research on this board that the consensus is you should not drive to that area in a car that you have any attachment to. This is due to high rates of theft in some of those areas. I had considered Prague as well, but decided against an eastern Europe leg for ED--maybe some other time when I'm not in my new car. Hope this helps.
