Servotronic
Do you guys know whether the servotronic mechanism is prone to make slight whining noises (like the turn of an electric motor) when making turns at low speed?

| | Reply » Servotronic | If I knew what a 'sevrtronic' was exactly, I might be helpful.
All I know is right now, in Michigan, with the stinkin' cold we are enjoying here, everything on my 528i groans and moans, until it warms up...of course.
P.S. My 1st post here. I'll admit, I am not real mechanically oriented on these beasts. I default to the $Dealer$hip$ for most 'isms' the car comes up with.
I do enjoy driving it though...except for the Audi and VW types that were told by TV and 'other mags' that 'it's OK to try and pass a Bimmer".

| | Reply » Servotronic | Until someone else mentioned it I had not noticed that on my X3. But yes, I do hear a little noise from the power steering when turning at low speeds with the windows down. The noise is from the hydraulic fluid in the steering system being pumped at pressure through the lines and system as you turn the wheel. This is actually normal although the X3 seems to be louder than some other cars. Just guessing on this part but it may have to do with the thickness of the hoses/lines, the pump itself, and/or the control valving for the Servotronic system. Regardless of the noise (which I do not find all that annoying) I like the benefits of the Servotronic steering.
Hope this helps!
