Who has paid for BMW Assist after the 1st free year

Who has signed up for BMW Assist after the 1st year free period?

I voted for <$50 because of how sleazy and, reading other posts, how poor their service is. I realize that BMW has essentially hired this firm, and Assist hires other firms to perform their work, but if there's a weak link anywhere along the line, then it's no good and reflects badly on BMW. But according to another post, BMW doesn't isn't overly concerned. With that said, if the service was reliable and good, I would consider $100 or $150 per year. I believe another poster said, he was paying, but later found out the service wasn't even working.

BMW Assist worked flawlessly for me the one time I had to use it. I'd say the towing service scored an 80% which isn't bad considering. As of today the Roadside Assistance is changing to AAA although I don't know if that's a real improvement. I decided to take an additional year to test the waters but I do think it's overpriced.

How did you use Assist per se, did you just have them call RA for you?

I haven't past my free year yet, but I will definitely renew. No, not because of the road side assistance (I have AAA), and not even because of the vehicle recovery (LoJack is better), but because of the automatic collision notification feature.

If I get in a car accident where I become terribly injured and nobody is around to call the paramedics, then I'm pretty much screwed. However, with the car's built-in GPS receiver and cell phone, a call can be made automatically to BMW Assist along with the coordinates. Then soon, I will hear a voice through my speakers, stating "our systems are saying that your front airbags have deployed. Don't worry, help is on the way."

I think of it as an additional insurance policy to increase my chances of survival should such an event occur. For several hundred dollars a year, I think it's a pretty good deal.

I think the subscription fee should be reduced and the per-incident fee raised. It seems expensive. Anyone have Onstar pricing to compare?
