I'm in the process of purchasing an E30, ran a Carfax, and it's blank before 1998. Current owner has had it since then. I'm doing a pre-purchase inspection at a good shop tomorrow. Is the lack of info from 1990-1998 anything to be worried about?

Not every state (in fact, I think quite a few) requires information be reported. Maybe the car was purchased and operated in one of those states?

thats quite a missing gap to cover, I would think twice, unless you have good gut feeling that all is ok with the car,. good luck

Did you ever find why there was no history reported by CarFax? I am looking at a 633CSi with the same problem. No history reported for the first 15 years. Even if you did not identify the specific issue, tell us anything you learned which may help in this situation.
