 Alarm question

I've got a 96 Z3 and yesterday for no apparent reason the remote alarm stopped working.

It chirps 3 times in quick succession but does nothing. So like a moron I thought I could simply disconnect the battery which did nothing for the alarm and since I bought the bimmer used I now have to go to a dealer to get the radio code. But back to the alarm thing.

Anyone have any ideas as to what is with the alarm and how do I reset it?

Thanks,

Its usually the hood switch. You can adjust the driver side of the hood down a little to see if that work, but you may just need to replace the switch. I think there was a post showing how to test it. Although the hood switch is the most likely, it could also be one of the other switches.

Thanks, I found the thread, I'll check it out tonight.

On a side note I was reading last night about all the woes people get from Dealerships to get the alarm codes, I called the local one here in Vancouver and asked what I need to do and they said show up with the registration and my DL and they'll give it to me. They even said if I fax over the information I would get the code. Cool.

Good call. I pulled out the glovebox and found the hood pin plug for the alarm, unplugged it and voila alarm works. Seems odd there is a hood pin since you pretty much have to get in the car to open the hood.
