Very new, need help. '92 3.25 is

Hello,

I own a '92 3.25 is and I wish to mod it and such, but the truth is, I don't know much about cars. I do know SOME stuff, but i'm not the type to go wandering around acting like I know ****. I was told to come to this forum to get some serious advice. Regarding cosmetics, I have a pretty good idea on what to do. The factory paintjob is beginning to fade, so I need a new red paintjob on it and i'm thinking of a body kit. Now i'm told not to waste money on a bodykit if I want to engine mods and race. What are you guys' opinion on that?

Also, I heard that if I want to do some mods and upgrading to make it "raceable," it'll cost me a lot of money and that I should just sell it used and save up for a new car. I'm not sure about that. The WRX STi is looking REAL nice right about now, but I still love my bimmer and nothing can replace the feeling of my bimmer.

So basically, here's the thing. I want to mod out my car, but where do I start? The car used to have an overheating problem, but I got that fixed. Cosmetically, there's a no brainer, unless you guys want to advise me on what to do to it cosmetically as well. I just need some ideas and where to start. Regarding a budget, i'm open to just about anything as long as it seems utilatarian enough and not just money down the drain.

Any advice and help will be very much appreciated.
