 Aux fan switch question

This is more related to the M3 but I guess they are pretty similar.

The dual temp aux fan switch has 3 wires. I am interested to tap into the wire that is hot when the low temperature of the switch is triggered.

The wires are: one brown (I assume that is ground), a thinner one and a thicker one. Is the thinner wire the one I am looking for?

Thanks,
Florian

Are you talking about the temperature switch?
If so, black/green .35 wire is low speed.
Black/gray .5 wire is high speed.
Both go to ground when activated.

Yes the temperature switch that triggers the aux fan. Basically I am trying to remove the mechanically driven fan and add one more electric (just in case) in addition with a lower temp thermostat, aux fan switch and the other things for a fan delete.

Now I have a relay that will trigger my new electric fan. From what you said the wire will go to ground when temperature is reached. Will my relay work if the wire goes to ground and not 12V?

Thanks,
Florian

I think I figured it out. The relay actually wants a ground signal anyway in order to trigger the fan. So I think I will be in excellent shape if I tap into the green/black wire.

Is this usually a standard for aux fan switches to ground their wires? I am asking because the relay kit I got with the fan is pretty generic.

Thanks a lot Ron,
Florian

Edit: Electrical diagram for the fan attached below. The wire I am going to tap into black/green is the gray one in the diagram.

Yes if the other side of the relay coil is at 12 volts.
