Been thinking about changing the car recently. Ever since, my current car has stopped grinding horribly first thing after start-up while the lifters fill up, road noise from the knackered P Zeros seems to have faded away, the RHS door pillar rattle has gone, it's drinking less, rumbles mutedly and expensively over motorway expansion joints, and the engine seems to have gained 15 bhp. It even looks better than normal. Is this common?

Absolutely. Your car likes its home and is behaving better so it can stay. You know it's true, BMWs have a soul.

Quote: It has been for me. Although there's no looking back once I'm in the new car, in the weeks or days prior to trading the old one, I do experience the same things you described. Just as difficult is leaving the old car at the dealer's lot. I can't even "look it in the eye."

You are now viewing your car through the filter of a depleted wallet should you trade it, and it's looking better and better.
