I think it was the writer that the article was about that spelled it "Beemer". I have a feeling that the editors didn't want to correct him out of respect?

I do a ton of writing for publication. Trust me editors always correct if they catch it. The live for this stuff. Respect has nothing to do with it (you should see some of the comments I get!).
