 Premium vs Unleaded Gas

Silly question but will ask anyway....what happens if a regular unleaded gas is used on a BMW car?

Your engine WILL blow up. I'm dead serious.

So that's why I heard the popping sound today when I accidentally pumped a quarter gallon of 89 proof in the tank and subsequently started the motor after filling it the rest of the way with 91! Do you think it's safe or should I drain the entire tank?

You'll save about 30 cents a gallon.

The engine will detect the knocking that results and retard the timing to prevent it. You will get less power and less fuel efficiency, but the engine will not be harmed.

In general, the loss in fuel efficiency will cancel out any gains from the cheaper cost of gas.

Unfortunately, the only semi-possible remedy is to get two tubes of toothpaste and get them in there ASAP! You might want to throw some sugar and honey in there for good measure. I'm sorry, but most likely it'll be a total loss...
