Audis are making really competative cars anymore, the only thing that keeps me from considering one ever is their crappy engine sizes, I mean come on, do they really expect to compete with a 300 hp V8 w/ more weight vs 350 hp V8's w/ less weight?

I think he is right. Even when I was a kid, the aspirational cars have been M-B, followed by BMW. Of course, back then M-B were truly 'Engineered like no other car' (their slogan in Europe and Africa), unlike the junk of the past few years.
BMW really took off, in Europe at least, in the 80's with the yuppie boom.
I have never met any kid say 'when I grow up I want to buy an Audi'! :-)

Decided I just wasn't an Audi kind of guy.

I see Audi as being a potential competitor.........a few years down. Not now. Sure, right now they've got ONE truly good ride: the RS4. On the whole, Audi's just don't provide the "sparkle" or amazing driving dynamics as BMW. I mean, can you really say an Audi A8L is as fun to drive as a 7? I know the 7's big, but it's still the best driving executive sedan out there.
