Anyone know how to do this? My wife has 2005 BMW X3 w/ premium package and doesn't like the mirror dimming @ night (something about seeing cars behind her or something) but I cannot figure out how to do this. I own a 2003 Nissan Murano and there's a button on the mirror that allows you to turn the feature on/off but apparently not on the BMW. I read somewhere in this forum about removing a fuse but I'm afraid that will deactivate the compass, rain sensor, and LED features. I thought of just buying a non-autodimming mirror from BMW but they're like $100 and don't have the compass feature (although my wife states she doesn't really use that anyway). The other option is to trade with someone who has the manual mirror but I think the dealership might notice when the lease is up. Any suggestions?

If it's anything like my 330i, the fuse that powers the compass is the same that powers the auto-dim. That also means that the wiring is the same, so it's split off to the compass and auto-dim inside of the mirror, therefore no way to turn one off and not the other without cracking it open.
One solution might be to somehow cover the "eye" in the mirror glass that senses a light behind you.

Thanks for the suggestiom, I might just try that. Another thing I found is that someone is selling a standard BMW mirror on ebay with rain sensor and led but no compass or autodimming for a penny right now:

I may just buy this one and swap it for the mirror until she has to return the car. From what I've read on other forums it seems like swapping out the mirror is pretty easy. Does anyone know if there would be any problems going from the compass auto-dimming mirror to the mirror sold above or would it be plug-and-play? I guess I'll give my local dealer a call in the morning and find out.

Well shoot! I've got an '05 330ci with the standard mirror, and I've thought a bit about getting the auto-dimming one. The compass would be an added bonus.
Assuming it's a simple swap (not sure if it would be an easy install in my car's case... wiring and such) I'd love to trade! PM me if you'd like to consider it.
On the other hand - if you don't want to swap - covering the light-detector on the cabin-facing-side of the mirror would probably solve your problem.

It's pretty easy to wire up, but in my case I had to buy an extra harness to get the pins out of. PM me if you decide to do it and I can give you some more info.
