I've got a 1997 Z3 and I can't get the service indicator lights to reset.
I've tried the method detailed at: http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e36/ele...ce_lights.html
I've had no luck with this so far so I just wanted to make sure I was doing it correctly:
1) Place ignition switch in position two 2) Remove cap from data link connector 3) Short pin 7 to 19/ground for 11 for full reset 4) Turn off ignition 5) Replace cap 6) Start car and lights should be reset
Thats what I've been trying and it doesn't work. I remember reading that if it doesn't reset then the batteries on the board need to be changed. Does anyone know how to get to the batteries?

I have a question for you if you don't mind. I have never had any of the service lights reset. I have had the work done. Why do you need to reset the lights? I have had my car for 8 years. The lights go off a few seconds after the car is started. Just curious I guess.

I like mine reset as it's a reminder when service is due (I change my oil about halfway through the interval). It also denotes when a major service (Inspection I or II) is required.
It's like any other gauge or indicatior; you either pay attention to them or you don't.

Thanks guys. I guess I can ignore those things with the best of them. I service about every three thousand miles, but I am also doing some track days each year. the mechanic I use does rather thorough exams of the car. I think he values the amount of business I send his way, so he looks after my car as if it was his own.
