 engine problem

Engine on '01 3.0 will not start. I had a "service engine soon" code cleared by the dealer about 3 weeks ago. Supposedly, it was due to not properly tightening the gas cap. The car drove home fine, but yesterday when I went to start it up for the first time since, all the lights on the instrument cluster flash on and off, and the engine will not start. Does anyone have an ideas to what the problem may be?

On these cars, I would always check the battery first if the car doesn't start.

I did think about that, but seeing as all the electrical functions of the car like indicators on the instrument cluster flash on and off, headlights and radio work, I do not think it's a lack of power with the battery.

When you say it won't start, do you mean the engine won't turn over ? If so, I'd check the battery. Sometimes the battery will have enough power to operate the lights, radio, etc, but not enough to operate the starter (which has a high current draw ).

I will checkout the battery in the daylight. I have one with an "eye' in it. With green (good), yellow (going) and black (gone).

I was fooled by the lights once. I had a dead battery with a green light. The guy at autozone said they do that sometimes...just FYI.
