Out of state Car Buying Qns
Hi all, I posted this question on another forum. But here it goes again: I'm looking to buy a car out of state (almost 2000 miles away). I got pictures, description, VIN, etc. I'm still waiting for the seller's response on whether I/my local friend can see/inspect/test drive the car. The seller prefers to handle the transaction through escrow.com. We will agree on terms and go through escrow.com. I send money to escrow.com. Upon arrival of the vehicle and my inspection, I can release the money to him. Is that how it works? What do you guys think? I don't mind flying there and pay cash for the car. But it seems like the seller doesn't want to do that because he doesn't live there? Is it a scam? thanks.

BTW, I bet that car is selling at a price WAY below market price and beyond resonable. Oh yeah.... one more thing... I bet the seller never gave you a valid phone # so you can call him. How am I doing??!!
| | Reply » Out of state Car Buying Qns | beewang, you got everything right:
1. no phone number yet after couple emails. 2. way below market price 3. don't let me see the car in person yet
just like the old saying, "if it's too good to be true..."
I'll see what happens. I insisted to at least inspect the car in person.

You may find that this letter has been used over and over again by scamsters. They re-use them (a) because the letters work, (b) many scamsters - but not all - aren't very smart or imaginative, and (3) scamsters are both lazy and overwhelmed by inquiries, and it's too much work to modify a "winner."
If you find "your" letter, or significant portions of it, after Googling, you know it's a fraud. If you don't find your letter, then the jury is still out. But from what you've posted, it seems like a scam.
In fact - can you post one or more of the letters?

Have fun,
