Answers Please ASAP!!!
I lent my son my 323 wagon last night...On the way home about 3 blocks away from the house, his drunk friend in the front seat became violent and started punching my son and also knocked the rear view mirror off the windshield and kicked the front speaker and cracked it. My first impulse was to get the baseball bat out of the 330 coupe and bash in his izusu trooper but i maintained. I've been trying to attach the mirror back on to the windshield but cant..Is there a trick to it? H E L P !!!! Trying to fix this before husband comes back from weekend trip...
| | Reply » Answers Please ASAP!!! | you just have to explain what happen, your husbands property is your own. I think thats what Dr Phil would suggest, sorry!
| | Reply » Answers Please ASAP!!! | Idea #1:
Go to the dealership and get a replacement speaker before your husband arrives. Ask them if for assistance in reattaching the rear-view mirror. If they can't help you, then...
When your husband gets home, just tell him that your son (or you) was adjusting the rear-view mirror when it suddenly dislodged from the windshield and suggest that it was due to cheap/defective adhesive. Make a joke about it... "honey the funniest thing happened to me yesterday. I was adjusting my rear-view mirror when it came off. There I was holding the mirror in my hand and staring at it in disbelief! ***giggle at this point*** I was so cracking up!"
Idea #2:
(First make sure nobody is looking...) Park your car outside your home, use that baseball bat to smash in the driver's window, and take out the stereo and rear-view mirror and hide them somewhere. Leave your car like this until your husband gets home. Let your hubsand be the first to "discover" that your car was broken into and run to you yelling "hulagyn! hulagyn! Someone broke into your car, stole your stereo, and even tried to take one of the speakers! That wierdo also took the rear-view mirror!"
After everyone calms down, then simply file a claim to the insurance.
Idea #3:
Trade in the car at the dealership for a brand new, 2006 330i and tell your husband that you wanted a new car for Christmas.
Idea #4:
Take your car to the BMW service department to repair the broken parts. If parts are not available at the time, try to have them hold your car until the parts arrive (which should only take 3-4 days). Explain to them your situation so that they might be able to help you out and conceal the "true" reason why you're there (ex: not putting "replaced mirror, speaker" on the record) (BTW, they have to be REALLY nice to do this for you). Explain to your husband that you brought the car to the service department after a breakdown and that the department needed to keep it for a few days until the "parts" arrive.
Idea #5:
What if you can't get a replacement speaker, and don't want to go the extremes of the above ideas? Try to make the damaged speaker less noticeable. If the speaker cover is just bent, maybe you could take it out and unbend to the a barely noticely appearance? If it's actually smashed in, maybe you could try to unsmash to its original position (or close to it) and put dark-colored tape on the back to hold it in place. This is a quick, temporary fix until you can get an actual replacement part.
As for the rear-view mirror, you can (1) keep the "honey it came off" story, or (2) follow grahambishops idea in the post below. Yes, Goo Gone works wonders in removing left-over adhesives!
Just make sure your husband doesn't see this message?

Trying to fix this before husband comes back from weekend trip... | Sorry to hear about your bad news. Unfortunately your description of the damage isn't complete enough to give you the right answer, but maybe this is the 80% solution. If the mirror wasn't damaged and only the bond or glue attaching the mirror to the windshield is broken it is repairable. You will have to remove the dried glue on the back of the mirror mount and the windshield. Maybe "Goo Gone" or something like that may help. Auto supply stores sell a "special" rear-view mirror glue. Some of the bigger grocery stores may also have it. Just follow the instructions and you should be OK. If the mirror is broken or the mounting arm is broken, then you'll have to go to the dealer and get the part. Might as well have them stick it back on too as it shouldn't take more than a minute. Hope this helps.
| | Reply » Answers Please ASAP!!! | PotatoAddict: he kicked in the speaker pretty good...no pieces are missing but when i tried putting it all in place, you can still see where its cracked. i just took the cover off. im probably gonna stick with the adjusting the mirror story...i was only able to attach it to the coily thingy and its just hanging. My neighbor who owns an M3 wasnt able to attach it either...
grahambishop: as he was throwing punches at my son, he punched the mirror off the windshield...no broken pieces...it didnt look like it was glued on..there are 3 rivets inside but cant get it to align or to hook up...
thanks for all your suggestions..he doesnt know about this forum...which is a good thing!
| | Reply » Answers Please ASAP!!! | I would simply tell your husband the truth. He is entitled to it. He is entitled to know the kind of people your son associates with. Why are you protecting your son and his obviously worthless friend? (Why isn't your son or the friend working to fix the problems they caused? Sounds like your son is an overly-protected Momma's boy to me.)
Is this post for real or is somebody pulling our axles?
Look what "hulagyn" (hooligan??) just posted on the 3er board:
